FREE Mitten/Hat Pattern

If you need a last minute frugal stocking stuffer here is a great pattern from BurdaStyle.com. If you sew and have never been to this site it is a treasure! Most of the patterns featured on this site are designed by different people and FREE to you. They are open source patterns. You do have to register (also free) to download the pattern but you will find many different patterns available to you. The latest one is perfect for gift giving.

The pattern name is Elana BS-006.
Now, to really do a Tightwad Tess on this pattern instead of using a sweater find an old sweatshirt for your material. I have done this several times and the ribbing at the bottom of the sweatshirt works perfectly for the ribbing on the cuffs and brim of the hat. If you don't have any old sweatshirts search for them at yardsales and thrift shops. I've paid a quarter for what turned into a hat and mitten set gift.
If you would like to further check out BurdaStyle.com here is a link to their site. Enjoy!
